Well, would you look at that.

According to a wildly inaccurate tracker I’ve been using, I wrote approximately 100,000 words this year. 110,845 to be exact. That includes the 26,132 words I wrote this week by requiring myself to hit 5k words as my minimum. My goal is the reach 100,000 words this month, an imminently reachable goal if I continue as I have been doing.

One: Why do I call my tracker ‘wildly inaccurate’? It’s a very good tracker. Breaks down the days, weeks, but not the total for the month. I have to keep track of that myself. Unfortunately, user error, I haven’t been keeping up with it like I should. Like it doesn’t include any of the work I did in October or November (NaNoWriMo). It doesn’t include those because I wasn’t keeping track. I failed in the simple motion of adding my word count to the tracker to keep up with it. Go me! In all honesty, there’s a lot of the year that just isn’t on there. I stopped paying attention for a number of months and just wrote without keeping track, so I might have something like 200,000 words over the course of this year.

Two: Why am I writing essentially to double my word count for the year in one month? Because I know I can. NaNoWriMo taught me long ago I could write 50,000 in a month. I’ve been a NaNoWriMo participant for almost 13 solid years. (I’ve taken a year off here and there.)  Several years ago, I hit over 70,000 in November to finish a novel that I started that month. 70,000 is nothing to sneeze at. It’s also only a stone’s throw from 100,000 in 30 days. So I’m stretching myself a bit to see if I can manage this monumental goal. It’ll be worth it, I think.

Three: Why 5k a day? If I hit 5k every day that I write, I only have to write for 20 days. This means essentially I can take weekends off. This isn’t absolutely necessary and in most cases, I’ll write on the weekend too, but this way if something happens I have a little bit of a cushion built in to allow for it.

In other news, I’ve sent the three novella set of the Matchmaker trilogy off to the beta readers. I should get that back and be able to work on it in January. I’m currently working on a piece called ‘Gold Feather’ which includes an airship I have now crashed into the sea. I’m busy enough, I suppose. My Patreon subscribers got a full short story this week. If you’re not on there, you should be. New short stories will appear there first. However, I have not forgotten about the stories that I started here on my blog. I know I still owe mini-chapters for that. Gonna get on that sometime soon and see where Lorelei and Alexander are in their affairs. Look for that soon.
