They are going is my usual response to the question of how things are going. I’m usually somewhere in the middle of multiple projects and unless you ask for specifics, which means you know enough to ask for specifics, then I just keep my things to myself. One project I do wanna talk about though is Ghost of a Chance the book which will wrap up the stories of Melina and Lester.
Now this book is currently in pre-production. That means I haven’t actually started writing it yet, but I know it’s coming. Exactly when is difficult to quantify. Depends really on how long it takes me to get my raving squirrels into something that resembles an order. Right now, I’ve got a name and an approximate storyline.
So why haven’t I started writing? The truth is that I’m trying to be a bit more strategic with my pre-production so that I don’t have to spend as much time in post figuring out what I did wrong. There’s something to be said for doing the work on the front end instead of fighting with an unwieldly manuscript on the back end. Hacking through things to make it into something that looks neatly trimmed and like I intended for it to look that way is time consuming. I’m sure you’d much rather just have the book.
For those of you who are new and have no idea what I’m talking about: who are Melina and Lester? What series is this even in? This new book completes the story that I started in She Becomes Death Book I: Wearing His Ring. There are currently three novels and three novellas in this series; however, by the time I get finished, it’s just going to be five novels. I wrote the novellas as a sort of mini-series following an adventure for Lester, but it ended up dovetailing into the overall arc of Melina/Lester’s story and I need to go ahead and redo those so that they are one book instead of three novellas. Which means so hack and slash to get it into shape. She Becomes Death was my foray into writing YA Fantasy and I’d like to think I did a semi-decent job. However, like many things I’ve done, I can do better.
Anyway, that’s the major non-secret project that’s on my plate right now. Yes, there are more, but I can’t talk about them yet. Maybe sometime in the future.
