Godzilla Returns…again?

So Godzilla….

I’m a little flabbergasted that after so many iterations, the old movie monster has returned for one more go round. Well, maybe I’m not. All things old are new again and all that.

In this particular iteration on Netflix, apparently Godzilla not only showed up and kicked some butt, he ran the human race off of the Earth entirely, while taking two other alien species out as well. I don’t remember this from any of the previous movies, so I’m gonna guess (Correct me, please.) they needed to make this more interesting by adding more differing points of view. One set appear to be hyper-technological atheist war-mongers and the other hyper-religious to the point of thinking Godzilla is some kind of preordained curse which all great civilizations will eventually fall to.

I watched this through to the end because it was on. By the time I got to the middle, I wasn’t sure if I cared for any of the characters, not even our hero. Is this saying it was bad, no. I don’t think it was bad, but I do think they didn’t give me enough of a reason to keep watching past this first episode. Even the easter egg, which I won’t tell you about, is hardly enough to make me go on to episode two.

Let me know if you watched it and what you thought. Am I wrong? Are the characters so compelling I just missed it? Leave me a comment.
